Thyroid Health
An estimated 27 million Americans suffer from thyroid related illnesses, the majority of them women. However, thyroid related disorders are often not well diagnosed. Because thyroid hormone metabolism is complex, the thyroid itself may seem fine while patients suffer from symptoms of thyroid hormone imbalance. In my experience it is all too common to hear patients complain of symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, depression and brain fog, all symptoms of thyroid hormone imbalance, even when they are told that their thyroid is fine or even while being medicated for thyroid insufficiency.
Stress, autoimmunity, food sensitivities, nutritional deficiencies, metabolic imbalances and environmental factors all must be considered and evaluated as they can affect proper thyroid hormone metabolism and uptake.
